June Events in the Flathead Valley

June at Flathead Lake is a laid-back month with pleasant, mild weather, making it an enjoyable time to visit. Here are some of the best Flathead Valley events in June:

Take a Kayak Tour of Wild Horse Island (Ongoing)

Wild Horse Island is one of the best spots to spend your summer on Flathead Lake! Never spent any time on the island? Take a kayak tour to get acquainted with the area! This two mile paddle  starts at the Go Sail Flathead Lake launch site, which is as close as you can get from the mainland. Once you get there, you’ll have 2.5 hours for a self-guided hike and lunch! All rentals come with a kayak, paddle, and life jacket. You can find real-time kayak tour availability here

Plains Day (June 7th)graphical user interface, application

One of the primary summer activities in the Flathead Valley in June is Plains Day. Plains, Montana is a small town surrounded by miles of fields and wild terrain which embodies Montana’s old-fashioned charm and resembles a classic Western movie set. It’s no surprise that the friendly residents of Plains throw a fantastic street festival in the town’s honor every year. Plains Day starts with breakfast and continues all day with a parade, contests, great food, a car show, and other activities for all ages. For Flathead Valley events with warm people and beautiful scenery, don’t miss Plains Day!

Montana Brewery Running Series (June 14th)

If you’re looking for a fun run with extra fun, head over to Montana’s Brewery Running Series 5K at Blackstar in Whitefish. This is an untimed fun run, and all levels of walkers, runners, and joggers are welcome to participate. Your thirty-dollar admission ticket includes participation in the 5K, access to event festivities, a craft brew at the finish line from Blackstar, and your choice of a collector’s pint glass or seasonal swag item from the Brewery Running Series. It’s a great deal and a terrific way to be active while having fun.

Whitefish Lake Triathlon (June 28th)

For more challenging Flathead Lake Events, the Whitefish Lake Triathlon is a more serious race with picturesque views of Whitefish Lake and the surrounding area throughout. The competitors will begin with a 0.8-kilometer swim at Whitefish City Beach, followed by a 20-kilometer bike ride and ending with a 5K race to the finish line. Additionally, there is a beginner’s clinic from May 6th until June 29th for those who need extra help training.

Farmers Markets (Ongoing)

June is the prime month for growing produce in Montana, so some of the best summer activities in the Flathead Valley are visiting the Farmers Markets around the lake. The largest and most popular markets are in Kalispell held on Saturdays, Whitefish on Tuesdays, Bigfork on Wednesdays, and Polson on Fridays. Not only do Flathead Farmers Markets offer fruits and vegetables, handicrafts, baked goods, and more for sale, but browsing while sampling treats is a delight on its own.
