September Events in the Flathead Valley

Visiting Flathead Lake in September is ideal for enjoying milder temperatures and avoiding crowds. Although summer is over, there are still plenty of exciting events in the area. Here are our top suggestions for September events in the Flathead Valley:

Sail Flathead Lake

It’s not too late to appreciate the amazing natural beauty of the Flathead from a sailboat. Weather permitting, Go Sail Montana will continue sailing in early September, meaning you have time to improve your sailing skills through our ASA classes before the season ends. Or, if you already have some experience sailing, you can take one last voyage for this year with a bareboat rental

“The Hits” at Bigfork Summer Playhouse (Sept. 4 – 6)

The Bigfork Summer Playhouse wraps up every year with the beloved extravaganza musical performance of The Hits of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, with each lineup different from previous years. This live event brings all the nostalgic beats for an evening of family-friendly entertainment, featuring tributes to the iconic artists of the decades, such as Elvis Presley, the Four Seasons, and Cindi Lauper. The Hits is one of the staple September events in the Flathead Valley.

Brash Rodeo (Sept. 6)List of September events including sailing, rodeo, fun run, quilt show, and theater in Flathead Lake.

September is also your last chance to see Western Montana’s longest-running series open rodeo, Brash Rodeo before the year ends. Join in the fun at Blue Moon Arena in Columbia Falls for a thrilling display of steer riding, barrel racing, and other events. VIP tickets are available, which will allow you to watch the show from behind the bucking chutes and go behind the chutes where the cowboys and cowgirls prepare for action.

America’s Diamond: The Neil Diamond Legacy Concert (Sept. 12)

The world’s top Neil Diamond tribute artist, Jay White, is visiting the Wachholz College Center in Kalispell from Vegas for one special show. Check out his legendary performance of Neil Diamond’s classics like Sweet Caroline, Hello Again, and Cherry Cherry. Fans of all ages are welcome to attend and enjoy the concert where the good times never seemed so good!

Great Fish Fun Run and Community Celebration (Sept. 13)

If you are looking for September events in the Flathead Valley that also support important causes within the community, check out the Great Fish Community Challenge’s yearly celebration featuring a 5K and 1-mile run, a nonprofit fair, live music, and a free BBQ lunch. Top finishers in the races earn grants for their favorite participating nonprofits. Last year, the Community Challenge raised $6.68 million during its five-week campaign. The funds were then distributed to numerous nonprofits in the Flathead Valley for initiatives related to children’s education, extracurricular activities, shelters for unhoused individuals, and more.

Flathead Quilters’ Guild Quilt Show (Sept. 19 – 20)

An annual community favorite, the quilt show will attract quilters and visitors from around the Pacific Northwest to admire the creations of the Flathead’s talented artists. The free event will feature a raffle with prizes and quilting demonstrations and discussions. This year’s theme is “something scrappy.”

We hope to see you at these September events in the Flathead Valley!
