FAQ: Flathead Lake Sunset Charters
New for the 2025 boating season, Go Sail Montana is offering sunset charters on Flathead Lake! Sailing in the evening allows groups to see the sunset over the mountains on one of the most scenic lakes in the Rockies. If it’s your first time booking a sunset charter, here’s a look at everything you need to know!
Where is the Best Place to Watch the Sunset in Flathead Valley?
There are many beautiful locations in Flathead Valley to watch the sunset, but there’s nothing quite like watching the sun go down from a sailboat. A sunset charter is the best way to see the brilliant colors of the night sky in the Flathead Valley.
Does Go Sail Flathead Lake Offer Sunset Cruises?
Yes! Starting in 2025, we are offering sunset cruises on Flathead Lake. We will take you around the lake to some of the best locations to see the sunset over the Mission Mountains on one of the premier sailing destinations in the west.
How Long Is the Sunset Cruise?
The sunset charter is a 3-hour cruise. You will want to arrive at least 15 minutes early, in order to meet with a sailboat captain and go over some sailing basics. If it’s your first time sailing with us, don’t worry. We go over a safety briefing and sailing plan for the evening before setting sail.
When is the Boating Season for Sunset Charters?
We have availability on our sunset charters from May through September. However, many dates are already booked through July, so reserve your sunset sail as soon as you can.
Are the Sunset Charters Available 7 Days a Week?
We have bookings 7 days a week, but there is limited availability for the 2025 boating season. Many of the spots have already been reserved, but you can still secure a spot on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for most of this season.
Where Do We Meet the Captain?
When you schedule a sunset charter with Go Sail Montana, you can meet your sailboat captain at the white building at the top of the hill at the Big Arm Private Harbor before you sail. You can find our office at 38132 US-93, Big Arm, MT. You’ll find parking near the Northwest Bypass entrance.
How Should I Dress for Sunset Sailing?
The weather in Northwestern Montana can be unpredictable, even in the summer. Check the forecast before you arrive at your sunset charter to see if you need a light jacket or any rain gear. We won’t sail during thunderstorms, but light rain doesn’t stop us. Pack bug spray, as mosquitoes often come out at dusk.
Who Will Be On My Sunset Cruise?
One thing that our guests love about our sunset charters is that they get to sail exclusively with their group. You and up to 4 other passengers can enjoy a sunset sail on a private boat with a Go Sail Montana captain. Invite your family and friends to enjoy the sunset on your very own sailboat tour.
Do I Need to Know How to Sail?
No, you don’t need prior sailing experience to go on a sunset tour. Whether it’s your first time on a sailboat or you are an experienced sailor, you can book a sunset charter with Go Sail Montana. But if you want to sail, feel free to let your captain know that you’d like to help out!
