The Ultimate Flathead Valley 4th of July Itinerary
In the Flathead Valley, we look forward to celebrating Independence Day! We are proud to showcase our patriotism and community spirit each summer through our many festivities. With so many activities to choose from, we’ve put together the ultimate Flathead Valley 4th of July events itinerary so you don’t miss anything this year:
Sailing Courses
While you’re spending the fourth of July weekend in the Flathead area, make sure to include some time on the lake and improve your sailing skills. Whether you’re a complete beginner who wants to take up sailing or you have been sailing for years and seek to master more advanced techniques, our popular American Sailing Association courses can help take your abilities to the next level before this season ends.
Bigfork Parade
The town of Bigfork knows how to celebrate our country’s birthday right with its annual 4th of July Parade, which is a Flathead favorite and draws significant crowds each year. The event features live music, games, and food trucks, and the centerpiece of the event is the parade itself, where locals compete to create the most interesting floats. Independence Day parades can also be found in Kalispell and Polson.
Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social at Conrad Mansion
Every year, Conrad Mansion Museum hosts an old-fashioned ice cream social on the mansion’s historic grounds. It’s a cherished community tradition that celebrates the region’s history and embodies classic Americana. Not only is the ice cream free at this family-friendly event, but live music, food vendors, and discounted self-guided tours of the mansion are also included. Visit Conrad Mansion from 11 AM to 2 PM for a sweet treat.
Whitefish Arts Festival
For a Flathead Valley 4th of July event that continues all weekend, the famous Whitefish Arts Festival is in the heart of scenic downtown Whitefish. The festival draws top artists and craftspeople who create stunning pieces through various mediums. If you’re in the market for new décor, furniture, or a unique gift, stop by the festival on the 4th of July weekend for a chance to browse one-of-a-kind pieces.
Lakeside Fireworks Show
A highlight of Flathead Valley’s 4th of July events is the spectacular fireworks displays all around the lake. The fireworks at Lakeside, beginning at 11 PM, are funded entirely by local businesses, community members, and visitors, showing the Lakeside community’s collaboration. The show always leaves spectators in awe and makes a fantastic conclusion to the day. You can also catch more fireworks in Whitefish on the fourth and in Polson a day earlier on the third.
The Bigfork Montana Rodeo
Finally, the excitement doesn’t have to end on the 4th of July. From July 5th to 8th, one of the Flathead’s most popular rodeos takes place, The Bigfork Rodeo. Check out this thrilling, high-energy spectacle where professional cowboys and cowgirls show their incredible horsemanship. The Bigfork Rodeo was voted Montana’s 2024 Medium Rodeo of the Year, so it’s a must-see event.
