What is the Thistle National Championship?
The Thistle National Championship is a series of sailboat races around the U.S. Thistle is the name of the sailboat sailors race in the competition. It’s a 17 foot long sailboat that’s manned by 3 sailors. The Thistle National Championship isn’t open for professional, paid sailors which makes it a great way for amateur and hobby sailors to get involved in racing!
When is the Thistle National Championship on Flathead Lake?
The Thistle National Championship on Flathead Lake will be from August 2-4, 2024. This regatta will be the last race before the grand finale in New Jersey to crown the Thistle racing champion! Before the races begin, the boats will be measured and registered at the North Flathead Yacht Club in Somers. In the following days, the sailors are off to the races! It’s also a wonderful opportunity to get to know the sailing community and learn more about sailing. The North Flathead Yacht Club will also host a daily social and learning session after each day of racing.
