And because Flathead is one of the cleanest lakes in the world, scenic views and thriving wildlife are everywhere you look. 2. Hike in Glacier National Park

Flathead Lake is surrounded by several national parks, which offer miles of untamed natural landscapes for you to explore. The most renowned is Glacier National Park. The park is so large and full of variety that there are trails for hikers at all levels. And while summer is the park’s busiest season, the vibrant foliage of fall and winter’s snowy wonderland make it worth visiting year-round.

3. Visit Conrad Mansion Museum

Built in 1895, Conrad Mansion is like a scene out of a storybook. Visitors can take self-guided or docent-guided tours to get a glimpse of pioneer life of the period, but the Mansion also hosts exciting seasonal events. Visit in October for spooky vibes at their ghost tours and Halloween party. In December, Conrad Mansion’s holiday spirit is on full display with traditional Victorian Christmas décor.

4. Tee Up at One of Our Golf Courses

Golf lovers will be pleased to find ten picturesque and challenging courses in the Flathead Valley. Many of them are championship courses, and all of the courses are surrounded by Northwestern Montana’s breathtaking mountain and lake views. With a different vista at every hole, you might have trouble keeping your eye on the ball!

5. Visit Wild Horse Island

While some of Flathead Lake’s islands are privately owned, Wild Horse Island welcomes travelers for daytime use. As its name suggests, the island is inhabited by a herd of wild horses and Bighorn sheep. A trip to the islands provides a unique opportunity to picnic, hike, fish, and observe wildlife where few humans set foot. The island is accessible by boat or kayak, both of which are available through Go Sail Flathead Lake.

6. Drive Through the CSKT Bison Range

Located within the Flathead Indian Reservation, this protected area is established for the conservation of the majestic American Bison, which is an icon of Montana’s landscape. Driving through the range, you are likely to spot various other local wildlife species.

These activities near Flathead Lake are not only special, but they are also certain to offer visitors a sense of the rugged natural beauty and rich heritage of the Flathead Valley.
