Experience required to explore Flathead Lake without a captain! You must know how to safely handle the Capri 22 without assistance, certifications not req but recommended.

The best wind is 10–15 knots out of the east on high pressure days—blue skies and light white fluffy clouds. The best sailing on Flathead Lake is in the bay between the Dayton shoreline, Wild Horse Island, and Big Arm Bay.

There are no public docks on any of the islands. You can anchor and swim into the shore. There is a swimming ladder off the back of your boat.

Take a Guided Kayak Tour to Wild Horse Island
The tour is offered everyday June, July and August.
It is difficult to imagine a more scenic excursion than a guided kayak tour out to Wild Horse Island State Park!
The trip starts with a gorgeous, two-mile, guided paddle across the clear waters of Flathead Lake to the trailhead on the island at Skeeko Bay.
Once on the island, there is a 2.5 hour allotted time for a self-guided hike and lunch.
