We’re off to the races! With the help of an advanced ASA sailing instructor, you’ll learn the ins and outs of sailing trim and boat maneuvering and handling to give you a leg up in sailboat races on Flathead Lake and beyond. With just two to four students per class, our ASA 102 course is the ideal way to refine and develop racing skills so you can crew or rent a boat for a race.
This course is offered aboard a Capri 22 sailboat and meets all American Sailing’s 102 certification standards.
-
ASA 102 caters to a diverse range of sailors eager to enhance their sailing fundamentals including novices looking to build core skills and seasoned ASA graduates, eager to bridge the ASA 101/ASA 103 ‘gap’ and take their keelboat sailing knowledge to the next level. ASA 102 graduates are able to confidently manage a keelboat in winds up to 20 knots. Skills taught in ASA 102 include fine-tuning sail shape and power through precise adjustments in the mainsail, jib, angle of attack, depth, and twist. Students also learn about the implications of weather helm, and master the nuances of steering with a tiller extension

Flathead Lake generally experiences a 10–15 knot winds from the east, with clear blue skies. However, this is Montana, where the weather can have a mind of its own. Sailboat racing routes on Flathead Lake change throughout the summer, however, our Flathead Lake Boating Guide will give you an idea of places we might cruise by!
