No matter your sailing experience level, an ASA 111 course on Flathead Lake can help you to fine-tune specific techniques or get back into the sport after a sailing hiatus.
ASA 111 can be taken multiple times and offers personalized, hands-on instruction from an advanced American Sailing instructor aboard a Capri 22 or Pearson 33 sailboat on Flathead Lake.
-
ASA 111 is the American Sailing sailing review course for sailors looking to improve upon sailing skills they already learned in previous ASA courses. This course is completely customizable to the students’ goals and includes a personalized written plan or curriculum from one of Go Sail’s advanced sailing instructors. Take ASA 111 as many times as you’d like, for as many different sailing subjects you’d like!
-
Arrive at the Go Sail Flathead Lake office (43546 C Street in Dayton) 15 minutes before your ASA 111 refresher to meet your ASA instructor! After a short safety orientation, you’ll work with your captain to create a customized sailing plan with your goals for the lesson. You’ll spend about 2.5 hours out on the water, honing your skills. By the end of this course you’ll feel more capable on the water and ready for your next sailing trip on Flathead Lake or beyond.
-
Dress for the weather, come with sailing goals in mind, and consider packing a water bottle and snack or two! We’ll have the rest covered!
-
- Safety equipment and life jackets (PFD Type V)
- Allotted boat time
- Advanced sailing instructor
-
Book your ASA 111 course from Memorial Day through mid-September! Weather and Flathead Lake’s water levels permitting, we’ll be out on the water enjoying the steady 10–15 knot winds from the east and clear blue Montana skies. You’ll receive a confirmation 7 days before your scheduled lesson, and if the weather forecast looks uncertain, we’ll work with you to reschedule.
During your ASA 111 course, we’ll likely stay in the waters between Dayton’s shoreline, Wild Horse Island, and Big Arm Bay. If you have specific areas you would like to visit, let us know! You can check out our Flathead Lake Boating Guide for a comprehensive list of boating areas on Flathead Lake.

Most of our ASA courses do sell out, however, there is a minimum of 2 students required for the course. If the minimum is not met within 1 week prior to the course date it will be canceled. We will contact you to reschedule to a different day.
