Glacier National Park 7 Day Itinerary

Glacier National Park 7-day itinerary cover with sailboat logo.As one of the largest protected wilderness areas in the United States, Glacier National Park offers new experiences and breathtaking views around every corner. There’s so much to see and do that planning a trip can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve designed the perfect Glacier National Park 7 day itinerary to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

Day 1

The first adventure on your Glacier National Park 7 day itinerary should be to drive Going-to-the-Sun Road. Going-to-the-Sun is the main highway within the park and is famous as one of the most scenic roads in North America, while it is also considered an engineering marvel that exists in harmony with nature.

Make sure to stop at Logan Pass, the highest point on Going-to-the-Sun and walk the unforgettable 2.9-mile hike. If you’re up for one last stop, check out Wild Goose Island Overlook, one of the park’s most photogenic areas.

Keep in mind that the driving restrictions on Going-to-the-Sun Road may change. Keep up-to-date on the best way to drive the pass here

Day 2

Take the Polebridge entrance to discover this historic, off-the-grid town. Don’t miss the Polebridge Mercantile to sample their delicious, freshly baked pastries. They are famous for their “bear claw” pastries! The Polebridge area features two lakes and hiking trails, perfect for those who seek remote regions of the park.

Day 3

Another of Glacier’s unique villages, Apgar, can be found just inside the west entrance on the shore of Lake McDonald. Spend the day exploring the village and taking a refreshing dip in the lake. Afterwards, head over to the nearby Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Lake hikes, which are some of the park’s most popular.

Day 4

Spend a day revisiting your favorite spots in Glacier National Park or go somewhere a park ranger suggested in your past days of traveling. It’s always good to leave a day here and there for the unplanned and unexpected adventures!

Day 5

There’s more to explore beyond Glacier National Park! Getting out on Flathead Lake’s clear blue water is a must! Our 2-day beginner ASA sailing courses start in the morning and end at 4:30 PM, giving you hours of individual sailing instruction with hands-on practice time at the helm, while surrounded by panoramas that rival the beauty of Glacier National Park.

While the park is most active during the day, you’re missing out if you never see it in the evening. Crowds are smaller, temperatures are cooler, wildlife is more active, and Glacier is even more stunning at sunset! After you spend a memorable day on Flathead Lake, see Glacier in the evening to experience the park in a new light!

Day 6

Complete your sailing course, then take a stroll around a charming Flathead Lake town, such as Bigfork or Whitefish, and celebrate earning your ASA certificate with a special dinner at a waterfront restaurant!

Day 7

Wrap up your Glacier National Park 7 day itinerary at Many Glacier, considered one of the best areas to see wildlife and glaciers. A moderate hike will take you to Iceberg Lake, unique for its year-round floating icebergs and bright turquoise water.

A weeklong pass for a private vehicle and all its passengers is just $35, which makes it a convenient and affordable choice for a Glacier National Park 7 day itinerary. The park is open 24 hours a day.
