Montana Cup Regatta (August 1 – 2)
Sailors across northwest Montana look forward to the first week in August for the state’s largest and most prominent annual sailing competition, the Montana Cup Regatta. Hosted by the North Flathead Yacht Club, the regatta features thrilling sailboat races all weekend, while bringing sailors together from all around the region to appreciate the sport.

August may provide ideal weather conditions for sailing, but autumn is just around the corner, so sign up now for ASA sailing courses before the season ends so you can improve your sailing skills while checking out these exciting Flathead Lake events in August.
Bigfork Festival of the Arts (August 1 – 2)
The same weekend, downtown Bigfork will host its annual favorite Flathead Valley event, the Bigfork Festival of the Arts. The festival draws both locals and visitors to enjoy a selection of fine art, handmade crafts, local food, live music, and other family-friendly entertainment.
Huckleberry Days Arts Festival (August 7 – 9)
Another art fest, this time in Whitefish, is the Huckleberry Days Arts Festival. It is not only a chance to admire and purchase the works of local artists, but it is also an opportunity to sample everything huckleberry, including free huckleberry ice cream!
Because huckleberries are a favorite local delicacy, you can find more huckleberry-themed festivals at Swan Lake and Trout Creek.
Great Bear Festival (August 8)
Raise your glass at the Great Bear Festival, where you’ll sample the creations of local beverage companies’ beers, ciders, sparkling waters, and wine. Additionally, there will be a sunset concert featuring popular local bands and festival food truck fare, with plenty for kids to do, too, like lawn games, an art table, and their famous Big Bubble Booth.
Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo (August 12 – 16)
For Flathead Lake events in August that celebrate Montana’s ranching history, rodeos are a must! One of the most anticipated rodeos of the year is the Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo. This event is jam-packed with excitement, from three days of PRCA rodeo to two major concerts and even carnival rides!
If you want more rodeo action, Brash Rodeo has additional shows on August 13th, 20th, and 27th.
Bigfork Summer Playhouse (All Month)
Throughout the month of August, the Bigfork Summer Playhouse will perform its entire season lineup, including Newsies, The Music Man, Mean Girls, and Young Frankenstein the Musical, ending the month with their signature show, HITS from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Don’t miss your chance to see Broadway-quality musical theater in the Flathead Valley.
