What to Expect on a Flathead Lake Charter
If you’re new to Flathead Lake sailing, Go Sail Montana offers both bareboat and captained charters so you can enjoy Flathead Lake by sailboat, no matter your experience level. Here is a look at what you can expect when you book a Flathead Lake charter:
The Beauty of Flathead Lake
A visit to Flathead Lake’s pristine blue waters, dramatic mountain backdrops, and mature forests is a refreshing contrast to our busy and constantly changing life. The Flathead Valley offers visitors an escape to protected wild landscapes, thanks to the six state parks in the area and its proximity to Glacier National Park. The Flathead Valley is home to diverse species of fish, birds, and land animals that thrive here due to significant conservation efforts.
The Freedom to Explore
Because Flathead Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in North America, you will never run out of new places to discover. Some passengers prefer to stay on board the sailboat for the whole duration of the charter to explore the lake while taking in the endless views and sipping cold drinks or having a small picnic. For those who prefer a more active adventure, there are several locations to uncover that can only be accessed by watercraft, such as nearby Wild Horse Island. Nature lovers will find unique hiking, wildlife spotting, and swimming opportunities on the island, as it is a designated primitive area. You can also find secluded beaches and coves along the shore with a Flathead Lake charter, allowing you to enjoy the lake’s splendor away from the crowds.
The Choice Between Bareboat or Captained Charters
If you’re ready for an unbeatable voyage on a Flathead Lake charter, you can choose between a bareboat charter or a captained charter.
With a bareboat charter, you and your party can rent one of our Catalina Capri 22 sailboats and sail it on your own if at least one passenger is twenty-five or older and has completed ASA 101 certification or has equivalent experience. If you would like to earn ASA 101 certification in order to charter a sailboat with the privacy and independence of a bareboat charter, you can check out our courses here. We offer bareboat charters for three or six hours.
On the other hand, a captained charter is ideal for those who want a stress-free excursion, allowing one of our knowledgeable captains to handle the boat for you. This option allows you to relax while the captain navigates the best spots for swimming, sightseeing, and wildlife watching. Our tours are customizable, so let us know what interests you most! Additionally, these can be a great way for those who know how to sail but are a little out of practice to get some refresher practice with a knowledgeable captain.
An Experience to Remember Forever
A Flathead Lake charter is more than just a boat ride, it’s an unforgettable experience that will inspire reels of photos and memories that are cherished for years to come. Whether you’re looking for a special outing with family or a chance to immerse yourself in Montana’s legendary countryside, a Flathead Lake charter offers the perfect getaway.
