How to Celebrate the Summer Solstice: Summer Sailtice

Happy Summer Solstic

The longest day of the year is almost here! Do you have plans to celebrate? Go Sail Flathead Lake will be celebrating the Summer Solstice with a Summer Sailstice! Here is what you need to know about the event and how you can join:

What is the Summer Solstice?

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year. Every year the summer solstice falls between June 20th and June 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere. This year the Summer Solstice falls on June 21. In northern Alaska, the summer solstice comes with a full 24 hours of daylight! However, in Montana the Summer Solstice means sunshine for about 17 of those 24 hours.

What is the Summer Sailstice?

The Summer Sailstice is a global, annual celebration of sailing on the weekend nearest the Summer Solstice. This year the Summer Sailstice event will be on June 24th. The goal of the event is to unite sailors worldwide to share their passion for sailing. It’s estimated nearly 20,000 sailors participate in the free event each year!

How do I join the Summer Sailstice?

Anyone, anywhere can join the Summer Sailstice! However, there are a few different options for joining. If you already own your own boat and have a place in mind to sail, then go to the Summer Sailstice website to post your sailing plans. This will get you connected with other sailors and make you eligible for bonus prizes.

However, if you don’t own a sailboat or have a plan in place yet— come sail with Go Sail Flathead Lake! Go Sail Flathead Lake is already registered for the event and has some special plans in place for the Sailstice.
