The Under the Big Sky Festival brings together a variety of local, national, and international musicians for a weekend of fun in Whitefish. However, if you are staying for more than just the weekend— you’ll want to check out these other fun things to do in the Flathead Valley while you are in the area!

1. Take a sail on Flathead Lake

Unwind from the busy weekend by taking a relaxing sail on Flathead Lake. Go Sail Flathead Lake offers a variety of sailing opportunities for all skill levels— no sailing experience necessary! You can choose from sailing courses to learn to be a certified sailor to daylong charters with an experienced captain. Check out all the possibilities here

2. Taking a trip to Glacier National Park

Whether you have visited Glacier National Park before or not, when you are in the area, it’s hard to say no to a visit! While the park is always bustling with tourists, if you are willing to hike out a few miles you are sure to find your own serene slice of paradise. While you might not be feeling an early morning after partying all weekend at Under the Big Sky, early mornings are one of the best times to enjoy the park!

3. Check out the new alpine slide

If you are driving back home along the west side of Flathead Lake, you might want to stop by the Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster. It’s newly opened in Lakeside and it’s the first alpine coaster in the state. The coaster gets going up to 27 miles per hour but you can always opt to hit the brakes if you are looking for a more scenic and slow ride.

4. Visit Wild Horse Island

If you are looking to beat the crowds and get a bit of exercise in after Under the Big Sky, consider kayaking or paddleboarding over to Wild Horse Island. This beautiful island offers plenty of hiking trails as well as interesting history. If you didn’t bring any paddling equipment with you to the Flathead, you can rent gear by the hour or for the whole day from Go Sail Flathead Lake. There’s even an option for a self-guided tour!
